For the RHS Nocturnal Pollinator Experience, award-winning designer Sharon Hockenhull, has created a wildlife haven that is specifically aimed at attracting our night shift pollinators. The garden wraps around and leads into a marquee that will reveal the plight of night moths in an immersive digital interpretation created by Birmingham artist Georgia Tucker.

The garden will be a walk-through space for visitors to find out about what plants and habitats support these secret pollinators. Plants will include night-scented lure, nectar rich and native specimens to create a garden with a diverse range of plant types. One area will show how wild, usually unwanted plants in our gardens can still have a place to flourish as these provide a rich habitat for moths and other pollinators. Other areas including a mini woodland, wildflower meadow and a range of border planting styles to wander.

The space will feature ornamental habitats making use of plant materials usually relegated to council compost bins along with take-home planting ideas for all sizes of gardens. The feature garden also looks at how we can light our spaces in a sensitive way so that we do not disturb these night pollinating creatures.

“Pollinators are undeniably one of the keys to our existence and highlighting the humble moth as our super hero night-shift pollinators is a great opportunity for us all to be more mindful of their needs.

The idea that we can individually choose to safeguard their future by simply reassessing how we manage our garden spaces, what type of plants we choose to grow and how we light our gardens is empowering especially in a world where local natural habitats are diminishing.”
