FUNCTIONAL TERRACED HOUSE GARDEN, CHORLTON
This is a small contemporary back garden that features raised beds, intergrated wooden seating, mixed perennial planting and fruit. The small space has been divided into two sections to separate a more functional area for storage [bikes/bins] with an area for entertaining and relaxing. Wooden slatted screens divide the two areas, creating another 'room' to walk into. The entertaining side maximises the sunny aspects, with the integrated seating positioned so as to enjoy the morning and evening sunshine.
As with many terraced houses there are always arkward areas, in this case the side passage leading to the kitchen door. The client wanted to brighten the area up and to create some kind of feature along the wall. Keeping it simple, the wall was rendered and painted white with up and down lighters fixed to cast atmospheric light shadows along the wall. The client has also added some simple planters with box balls along the passage.
Spot lights have also been installed into the raised beds and tiny LEDs underneath the seating to bring the garden to life in the evenings and especially the winter months.
